Advanced Webinar: Processing Satellite Imagery for Monitoring Water Quality

September 5 2018 @ 5:00 AM - 7:00 AM EDT

Polluted water influences all aspects of life, including people, animals, and the environment. NASA satellite observations provide near real-time information about water quality. This freely available data can help decision-makers in their work. Satellite data can have applications for managing drinking water, public health, and fisheries.

This webinar series will help attendees perform advanced image processing of satellite data. Attendees will also learn about using satellites to track indicators of harmful algal blooms. This will include monitoring water temperature and chlorophyll-a concentrations. Attendees can also use this information for reporting around UN SDG 6.

Course Date and Time: Wednesdays, September 5th to September 19th, 2018. One session will be broadcast in English 09:00-11:00 EDT (UTC-4) and one in Spanish (16:00-18:00 EDT, UTC-4).

Learning Objectives: By the end of this training, attendees will be able to:

  • Access MODIS and Landsat data
  • Perform image processing of MODIS and Landsat data
  • Monitor water temperature and chlorophyll-a concentrations as harmful algal bloom indicators

Intended Audience:   This training will be focused at water resource managers, water intake managers, and fishery and aquaculture managers and farmers.

Registration: This webinar is free and open but you must register. Please only register for one of the daily sessions: You can check your local time to select your session preference
