The initial “News Notes” publication of the American Society of  Photogrammetry commenced in September 1934.A formalized volume numbering system began with the January 1935 issue of “News Notes” – Volume 1.From January 1937 the journal was renamed “Photogrammetric Engineering” (PE).Beginning with the January 1975 issue the journal name was changed to Photogrammetric Engineering & Remote Sensing (PE&RS).Frequency of Publication of Photogrammetric Engineering (PE) and Photogrammetric Engineering & Remote Sensing (PE&RS)Commencing January 1966 the society publishes 12 monthly issues of PE / PE&RS From 1963 to 1966 6 issues of PE were published in the months of January March May July September and November. In 1962 5 issues of PE were published in the months of March May July September and November.

From 1950 to 1961 5 issues of PE were published in the months of March April June September and December. From 1936 to 1949 News Notes or PE was published quarterly in the months of March June September and December.
In 1935 6 issues of News Notes were published in the months of January April May July September and November. In 1934 2 issues of News Notes were published in the months of September and November.
