The Fall 2004 ASPRS Specialty
Conference "Images to Decisions; Remote Sensing Foundations
for GIS Applications" will focus on the
integration of remote sensing image data into GIS and Decision
Support Systems (DSS). The intended audience is the GIS practitioner
who needs information about the extraction and use of data
and products derived from airborne and satellite sensors.
In addition to ASPRS Workshops, the first
day of the conference will feature four sets of paired concurrent
how-to seminars for novice and advanced users of remote sensing
image data. In these seminars, real-world GIS and DSS examples
will be presented to illustrate how images help lead to decisions.
The conference will be organized
around four major user groups of geospatial data: regional,
state, local, and tribal. A plenary speaker will focus on each
of these groups, followed by concurrent sessions consisting
of invited papers and submissions to the call for presentations.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND? Everyone
involved in information extraction from image data, GIS database
development and analysis of spatial data for assisting in decision
making. Special effort will be made to reach out to new users
of remote sensing and GIS at broad and local scales. Issues will
be addressed including the need to balance natural and cultural
resource preservation with economic concerns, homeland security,
smart growth, emergency response, and urban planning.
WHO SHOULD SUBMIT ABSTRACTS? All
users, producers, vendors and researchers who are interested
in the incorporation of information from remotely sensed image
data in GIS databases and decision support systems. This conference
is geared towards the novice and expert alike with both introductory
and advanced seminars, along with plenary sessions presenting
real-world applications at the regional, state, local and tribal
levels of government and organization.
