ERDAS TAKES THE LEAD IN THE ASPRS EDUCATION INITIATIVE KICKOFF!

ASPRS: The Imaging and Geospatial Information Society is pleased to announce that ERDAS® Inc. has generously donated $10,000 to the ASPRS Remote Sensing Education Initiative. Specifically, the funds are to be divided equally between the Remote Sensing Core Curriculum and the ASPRS Career Brochure. Funding to support the Core Curriculum may be used either to develop new remote sensing curriculum modules or to update existing modules. Funding for the Career Brochure was provided to expand the dissemination of the brochure, including the printing of additional copies, to serve the high school and undergraduate communities.

"We are extremely pleased to be the leading contributor to this educational program. Education is one of our company’s primary focuses and very crucial to the growth of our industry and of the Society" said ERDAS Vice President Bruce Rado. "ERDAS looks forward to the growth we foresee as ASPRS continues to provide excellence in educational programs. This excellence will no doubt impact the geospatial and geographic imaging communities in the most positive manner imaginable for decades to come."

In thanking ERDAS for their donation, ASPRS President Michael Renslow commented, "We are very excited to receive this gift. It will provide us with the means to expand the Education Initiative and keep it growing. I hope that the generosity ERDAS has shown will encourage other organizations to participate in this initiative. Our thanks go to all of those at ERDAS for their continuing support of ASPRS.

Founded in 1934, ASPRS is an international professional organization of 7,000 geospatial data professionals. ASPRS is devoted to advancing knowledge and improving understanding of the mapping sciences to promote responsible application of photogrammetry, remote sensing, geographic information systems and supporting technologies.

In 1978 ERDAS pioneered the first PC-based geographic image processing system and for over 21 years has set the standard for multi-functional geographic imaging systems. Today, more than 30,000 installations of ERDAS software are helping organizations around the world to visualize, manipulate, analyze, measure, and integrate any type of geographic imagery and geospatial information into a 2D and 3D environment.
