ASPRS: The Imaging & Geospatial Information Society, announces the 2002 meeting of the 15th William T. Pecora Memorial Remote Sensing Symposium/Land Satellite Information IV Conference and Exhibition, to be held jointly with the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) Commission I (Platforms & Sensors) Symposium. The meetings will be held November 8-15, 2002 at the Adams Mark Hotel in Denver, Colorado. The conference theme will be “Integrating Remote Sensing at the Global, Regional and Local Scale.”
The Pecora/Land Satellite conference tracks will cover several areas including natural resources, forestry, agriculture, environment, national security, transportation, disasters, hazards, emergency response. As a professional in the geospatial information and technology industry, this is an event not to be missed. Each time the Pecora/Landsat conferences have been held they have grown in size and scope. The 2002 conference should be no exception. The conference will host workshops, technical sessions, posters, exhibits, technical tours, and a Classified session. The William T. Pecora Memorial Award will be presented at this conference.
The ISPRS Commission I sessions and workshops will be devoted to Commission I Working Group subjects including: Standards for Sensor Parameters; Sensor Calibration and Testing; Active Sensor Systems; Advanced Sensor Systems; and Platform and Sensor Integration. These sessions are being developed by Commission I Chair Dr. Stanley Morain.
The overall conference goal is the transfer of knowledge about the use of satellite data from successful innovators to potential users at global, regional and local levels. The targeted audience for the Pecora/Land Satellite conference is the end user — the professional facing an information problem that can potentially be served by satellite imagery. The target audience for the ISPRS Commission I Symposium is the platform and sensor specialist. This conference will bring together image specialists from around the world, as well as end user professionals from diverse application backgrounds. The program will facilitate the transfer of satellite technology to a broader and deeper audience by expanding each professional’s field of view, allowing them to both discover options for solving problems, and develop criteria for choosing among options.
The Working Groups of ISPRS Commission I will prepare the ISPRS program. The organizers of Pecora 15/Land Satellite Information IV are currently inviting presentation proposal for papers, workshop, or poster sessions at this very targeted and important conference. Papers demonstrating successful solutions furthering the usefulness of satellite imagery in a wide variety of professional fields are most likely to be chosen. Look for the Call for Presentation this fall. The abstract submission deadline is February 12, 2002.
The 2002 conference is being organized by ASPRS and the following sponsoring agencies: U.S. Geological Survey, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the National Imagery and Mapping Agency, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Transportation, the Federal Geographic Data Committee, and the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, with the active participation of the ISPRS Commission I. The Transportation Research Board (TRB), a unit of the National Research Council, is the conference Co-Organizer. Cooperating organizations providing promotional support include ERIM International, the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, and the National States Geographic Information Council.
