ASPRS, The Imaging and Geospatial Information Society, is very pleased to announce that its sustaining membership has elected Kevin Perkins as Vice Chair of the ASPRS Sustaining Members Council. He will serve a one-year term as vice chair and then becomes chair of the Council for a two-year term.
The Council's role is to provide ASPRS Officers and Directors with input on how the Society's corporate members can make more of a contribution to the success of ASPRS in the national and international community. The Council also advises ASPRS on how the Society can support its corporate members throughout the profession and industry.
Perkins is the North American sales manager of airborne systems for Applanix Corporation in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada. He has held his present position with Applanix for the last four years. Among his many responsibilities are all sales of Applanix's integrated IMU/GPS technology, (POSAV), in North America. As both a private practitioner and sales professional, he has over 20 years experience in all aspects of land surveying including GPS. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Specialist) degree in Survey Science from the University of Toronto and is commissioned as an Ontario Land Surveyor. Kevin is looking forward to working with this committee in his new role as vice chair and to serving the industry through ASPRS in this capacity.
The Sustaining Members Council was formed in 2001. George Southard, a regional director with Leica Geosystems Systems, is the current chair of the Council. A recent bylaws amendment passed by the ASPRS Board of Directors in May gives the chair of the Sustaining Members Council a voting seat on the Board. All Sustaining Member companies are automatically members of the Sustaining Members Council. A subset of the Sustaining Member companies was elected to act as a liaison for communication with the ASPRS and specifically with the Board of Directors. This committee is made up of the chairperson, vice-chairperson, and at least three other members-at-large.
Founded in 1934, ASPRS is an international professional organization of 7,000
geospatial data professionals. ASPRS is devoted to advancing knowledge and improving
understanding of the mapping sciences to promote responsible application of
photogrammetry, remote sensing, geographic information systems and supporting
technologies.
