ASPRS 2021 Workshop: ELVIS: USGS NGP Lidar Research and Development Tool for Future 3DEP Lidar Accuracy Requirements
May 3 2021 @ 12:15 PM - 2:15 PM EDT
Instructor(s)
Minsu Kim
USGS NGP supports the research for accuracy assessment of 3DEP lidar point cloud to establish potential future accuracy requirements of 3DEP data. ELVIS is a research and development tool for NGP lidar research developed at USGS EROS lidar team. The workshop will address
- Theoretical background of Airborne lidar simulation software (Radiative-transfer and Georeferencing)
- Investigation of the functionalities of the lidar simulator in terms of laser, scanner, and target module
- Summary of lidar accuracy definitions from USGS lidar base specification
- Development of generalized external uncertainty model using 3-plane intersection point
- Development of generalized external uncertainty model using line-crossing point
- 3DEP accuracy assessment (Absolute Vertical Accuracy)
- Horizontal accuracy in the context of 3D Accuracy assessment
- Types of geometric feature-based GCPs found in the point cloud
- Application of 3D accuracy using Ground Truth Survey data
- Application of 3D accuracy using Mobile lidar data (Here Technology)
