ASPRS 2021 Workshop: Generic Sensor Model for Optical Line Scanners and Framers
May 10 2021 @ 2:30 PM - 6:45 PM EDT
Instructor(s)
Dr. Henry (Hank) Theiss, University of Arkansas and Dr. Reuben Settergren, BAE Systems
The goal of this workshop is to improve the participants’ understanding of the properties of sensor models, the concept of generic models for line scanners and frame sequences, and the content of the metadata required to support rigorous downstream exploitation of the associated image products to include optimal estimation and reliable uncertainty reporting for all computed quantities.
The workshop will consist of two parts:
- Part 1 includes a briefing to provide an elementary, non-mathematical overview of general principles of geographic coordinate systems and major classes of sensor models for a variety of imaging sensors.
- Part 2 includes a briefing to explain the photogrammetry and error modeling aspects of these new generic sensor models and associated metadata structure.
At the ends of each part, the instructors will provide the participants an informal atmosphere to ask questions and promote discussion on related topics; e.g. about coordinate systems and sensor model classes at the conclusion of Part 1, and the practical aspects of how a data provider populates the proper metadata with their image products and how an exploitation tool user performs typical geopositioning scenarios including absolute geolocation, relative mensuration, and multi-modality registration at the conclusion of Part 2.
