The ASPRS Standards Committee and Lidar Division of the American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing are proposing ASPRS Guidelines for Quantifying Horizontal Sampling Density of Aerial Lidar Point Cloud Data. Pursuant to the policy for adoption of ASPRS Standards, we are seeking public opinion on the proposed document, which can be read in its entirety here:

https://publicdocuments.asprs.org/LidarDensity-Ed1-V1-draft

The proposed guidelines include the following major sections:

  • Introduction and Scope
  • Terms and Definitions
  • What is Point Density?
  • Requirements for Lidar Point Density Measurement and Reporting
  • Methods for Measure Density
  • Methodology Comparison
  • Existing and Common Density Use Cases
  • Recommendations
