Creating Contours from LiDAR Data

Contours from LiDAR – We have found that many of our internal clients still prefer to see contours rather than interpret a DEM DTM or TIN surface. This is a 20 minute discussion of how contours are generated using software available at the District and how we recommend smoothing contours.

Exporting Esri Contour Shapefiles to AutoCAD

We have found that many of our external clients and consultants cannot use contour data provided as Esri shapefiles. Many small engineering firms request that we provide the contour data in AutoCAD format. This 10 minute presentation goes through the steps to take contours from either Esri shapefiles or a GeoDatabase and properly attribute the data for AutoCAD.

Creating Map Packages

Alvan Karlin Ph.D. GISP – received his BS from Rutger’s University New Jersey and in 1978 his Ph.D. in Theoretical Biology from Miami University Ohio. Karlin did a post-Doctoral Fellowship at Florida State University before taking a position in the Department of Zoology at the University of Arkansas. While on the faculty at the University of Arkansas he held positions in the Departments of Zoology Computer and Information Science and Engineering Technology.
In 2000 after 20 years of service with the University of Arkansas Karlin moved to Florida. Where he did consulting work for the private sector before taking his current position with the Southwest Florida Water Management District where as the Senior GIS Scientist he directs the District’s LiDAR data collection missions.
