GREETINGS FROM SAC!
T
he ASPRS Student Advisory Council (SAC) would like to wish a warm winter greetings
to all of you. The SAC is a group of 10 council members including both undergraduate
and graduate students. The SAC works within the society to represent student interests
throughout the year and at the conferences.
The New Year is fast
approaching, as well
as, the IGTF 2017 in
Baltimore. The SAC
is excited to facilitate
student participation
in the conference
as volunteers and
presenters in the poster
and technical sessions.
Additional exciting
activities the SAC will be
organizing at the IGTF
2017 Baltimore are the
Geoleague competition,
networking sessions, and
social events.
GEOLEAGUE COMPETITION
Gather your colleagues and get ready to think spatially. Geoleague competition
is an opportunity for your university to race against other universities to solve a
geospatial problem. The details of the 2017 Geoleague challenge are not complete
but we are able to give you a sneak peek. This year’s challenge will be focusing on
the historic buildings of Baltimore, IGTF’s host city.
NETWORKING SESSIONS
The networking sessions are opportunities to bring employers and students
together. Employers are given a platform to discuss desirable skills and the hiring
process. Students are given an opportunity to ask questions of the many companies.
In the past we have had representatives of Esri, Harris, Trimble and many more.
SOCIAL EVENTS
The annual conference is also a time to meet and bond with your fellow student
members in a more informal setting. The SAC is committed to bringing together our
student members to facilitate the sharing of ideas and fellowships. These events are
only some of many reasons student members should attend the annual conference.
As the conference comes closer we will further update you on the content of these
events. If you are a student and have questions or concerns about the conference
please reach out to us at
.
The Education and Professional Development (EPD) team is planning the above
sessions and looking forward to the student turnout in Baltimore. Currently the
SAC is in the process of updating our database of active student members of both
the national society and university chapters. If your university chapter is active
and not in communication with the SAC’s student liaisons please reach out to
.
