TECHNICAL MEETING LANDS AT REDWOOD FALLS
T
hanks to everyone who made the
trip across the vast corn fields of
Minnesota, North and South Dakota to
meet at the headquarters of Airborne
Data Systems in Redwood Falls,
Minnesota for our agriculture themed
inter-regional technical meeting on
Friday, September 19, 2014. Nearly 40
people attended with co-sponsorship
from the Minnesota, North and South
Dakota AmericaView Programs.
Attendees were ASPRS and AmericaView members and other
remote sensing professionals from around the area including
St. Cloud State University, South Dakota State University,
University of Minnesota, University of Wisconsin Eau Claire,
U.S. Fish &Wildlife Service, NOAA, U.S. Forest Service, USGS
EROS, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Minnesota and
South Dakota Departments of Natural Resources, Minnesota
Department of Transportation, and farmers.
The day started with a tour of the airport facilities for the
oldest digital aerial mapping camera manufacturer in the world,
Airborne Data Systems (ADS).
On the right, David Fuhr, ADS describes to Jonathan
Guentzel, Guentzel Farms on the far left and AdamCase, USGS
EROS how ADS builds and installs their multi-spectral cameras
for a variety of aircraft platforms including C-130 aircraft.
Due to the windy conditions for the day, early arrivals were
allowed to test their unmanned aerial systems flying skills inside
the hanger. Here Jessica Marose of CoreLogic finds out how easy
it is to fly a Parrot Drone with just a smartphone.
The meeting started off with a great overview of delivering
remote sensing images directly to farmers by Lanny Faleide of
Satshot.com.
