PHOTOGRAMMETRIC ENGINEERING & REMOTE SENSING

Twenty ago, Satshot.com got started by creating fertilizer
variable-rate maps for farmers with satellite imagery and
personal computers. Now they deliver via the cloud and open
source Mapserver software a whole host of farm related products
derived from multiple aerial and satellite systems including
Landsat, Spot, RapidEye, and now Planet Labs. Satshot.com
has partnered up to install a couple 5 meter download dishes
on their property to cover North America.
Gary Strahan with Infrared Camers Inc. literally flew in to
the meeting from North Central Minnesota to talk about their
thermal cameras and uses.
In this particular example, Gary is showing an image taken
by one of their cameras of the International Space Station from
a Space Shuttle. On the dark side of the earth in space, it is
impossible to see anything except with a thermal camera.
Dr. Marvin Bauer, U of MN, described Minnesota land
cover mapping projects using OBIA with high and moderate
resolution imagery plus lidar data. Dr. Tom Loveland, USGS
EROS, gave an update on Landsat 8 performance. After lunch,
Lindsey Harriman, USGS EROS gave an overview of the LP
DAAC Products followed by Dr. Dennis Helder, SDSU giving
a talk on calibration at all levels from Landsat 8 to the ADS
aerial cameras.
The last session of the day was highlighted by ice cream treats
for all. Pete Jenkins with MN DOT wrapped up the day by
describing their new ARCgis Mobile app for monument location
while eating an ice cream bar.
A new approach to limiting presenters to their allotted time
was discovered by Tom Loveland, USGS EROS as Pete Jenkins
was presenting his new tool. The melting ice cream bar in effect
became a clock limiting the speaker to his allotted time before it
melted and fell on the floor. This may be a revolutionary approach
to having presenters meet
their allotted times.
Finally, the last task
of the meeting was to
draw for a winner of the
PowerUp Powered Paper
Drone prize. Brandon
Krumwiede of theBaldwin
Group (subcontractor to
NOAA) was the winner.
The winner was re-
quired to wear the foam
corncob hat while getting
their picture taken.
