The SectorInsight Column is a general interest column published monthly in the front matter
of journal
Photogrammetric Engineering & Remote Sensing
(
PE&RS
) relating to education and
professional development of the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing
(ASPRS) community. Each month’s column topic relates to one of five ASPRS Industry Sectors:
Education (.edu), Commercial (.com), Non-Profit (.org), Government (.gov), and Military (.mil).
PE&RS is seeking volunteer ASPRS members to work jointly with Dr. Melissa Rura and
Dr. Amr Abd-Elrahman as co-editors for the SectorInsight column. Historically, SectorInsight
experienced shortage in articles related to the .gov and .mil sectors. Soliciting articles in these
sectors will be a priority for the new co-editor.
Column co-editors invite experts within their Industry Sector to write an editorial column
on areas of high interest to the ASPRS community. This editorial should include insights on
educational and professional development opportunities for the readership. The editorial is
a short (700-1200 words) column. Each Sector Editor would be responsible for editing 3 – 4
columns in a year. Following up on the initial invitation to submit column drafts is the key to
get the columns ready on time for publication.
Once a draft is submitted, the co-editors work on shaping the draft for publication. This process
often involves providing feedback on aspects to increase text clarity and impact, while maintaining
the writers’ own views, content and writing style. This iterative editorial review process takes
approximately 3-10 hours to have the column ready for the ASPRS editorial team at headquarters
who proceeds to the next step towards putting the column into production at
PE&RS
.
