COUNCIL (SAC)!
W
e are excited to share the 2017 GeoLeague Challenge with you. The GeoLeague
Challenge is an opportunity for groups of undergraduate/graduate students to exercise
their skills in GIS and remote sensing to find practical solutions to today’s environmental
challenges.
This year’s competition is focused on developing a tool to inform or support disaster response organizations with natural disas-
ters such as earthquakes, superstorms, wildfires, sinkholes, and floods. Previous topics include ecosystem services, geovisual-
ization of national parks, and wetland mapping, just to name a few. For additional details, please see the complete guidelines
on the ASPRS website:
REGISTRATION
At least one of the students in your team must be an active
ASPRS student member. To be eligible to compete, please fill
out a registration form, and return it to SAC Deputy Chair,
Jason Blankenship,
, prior to
January 18, 2017

PROJECT DELIVERABLES
1. Disaster response or prediction tool.
2. A report including background, objective, methods, and
an overview of the project.
3. At least one representative from each team will
must attend the 2017 Annual ASPRS Conference in
Baltimore on March 12-16
th
to present the teams project.
Geoleague presentations are tentatively scheduled for
Tuesday, March 14, 2017.
All project materials must be submitted by 8:00 pm EST on Sunday, February 19th, 2017
PRIZES
The winning team will have a highlight article in
PE&RS
, one
year complimentary membership in ASPRS for all first place
team members, gift certificates to the ASPRS Bookstore, and
more prizes to be announced!
If you cannot participate be sure to attend the Geoleague
session on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 to cheer on your favorite
team!
