GREETINGS FROM THE STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE (SAC)!
W
e welcome you at the largest independent city of the United States,
Baltimore, Maryland. We hope you are all excited to attend the 2017 IGTF
annual conference, March 12-16.
This year, the SAC will continue its involvement in the annual conference to organize technical and poster sessions as well as
social events where all ASPRS members can exchange their ideas and expand their social network. Here we provide a summary
of events that student members will be interested in.
Technical Sessions
The SAC organizes technical sessions every year, and this
year the session will highlight the NASA DEVELOP National
Program. Four students or early career professionals will
present in this session with topics including water resources,
urban stormwater runoff, archaeological exploration, and
harmful algal blooms. The session is a great opportunity for
students to learn how earth observation technologies can help
address environmental issues.
Networking
The SAC will host a session “Student Employee Meet and
Greet Session” on Wednesday afternoon. This is a unique
opportunity that students can use to meet with potential
employers for career suggestions/questions and even for job
offers. The session will be a place for you to market yourself
to employers. Past sessions have included a wide variety of
international and local employers.
GeoLeague 2017
The SAC will organize a student competition on March 14th,
from 10:30am to 11:30am. This year we will host a trivia
competition that will test your geospatial knowledge! This
activity is open to all students attending the conference.
Teams will go head-to-head in this fun and intellectually
challenging session.
STEM Day
The SAC will be volunteering on STEM Day and we invite
you to join us March 15th!
STEM Day is designed to bring together professionals
and educators to share experiences, knowledge, and discuss
the future of geospatial technology and its role in STEM
education.
