GREETINGS FROM THE STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE (SAC)!
T
he 2017 Imaging and Geospatial Technical Forumwas a resounding success.
This year’s conference took place in a snowy Baltimore, Maryland. The
weather may have kept a few attendees home, however it did not dampen the
spirits of the presenters, exhibitors, or volunteers. The attraction of industry,
government, and academiamade this year’s conference a rewarding experience
for students and young professionals.
Below are some highlights from the SAC’s sessions and activities.
Technical Sessions
The SAC co-hosted a very successful
session which highlighted the NASA
Develop Program. We encourage our
student members to get involved in
the program and to use geospatial
technology to solve environmental
and social problems. The SAC also
hosted the Student Poster Sessions in
the exhibit hall. These posters covered
many aspects of geospatial technologies
from both the theoretical and practical
perspectives.
Networking
The SAC hosted a great “Student/
Employer Meet & Greet” which
gathered over a dozen employers
from government, academia, and
industry. Students from around the
globe mingled with industry leaders.
Valuable connections were formed and
wonderful conversations about the
latest technology occurred. Each night
of the conference had an event worth
attending for the food, knowledge, and
perhaps most importantly the live
music with guest vocalists.
STEM Day
Two members of the SAC volunteered
at the STEM Event. The unique blend
of sessions made it an enthralling
experience to explore the state of
geospatial technology in K-12 education
today. The sessions ranged from
curriculum development to testing
geospatial proficiencies at a variety of
knowledge levels.
If you did not attend IGTF this year we hope to see you next spring! As always send any questions or inquiries to:
