HELLO STUDENT MEMBERS!
W
elcome to museum city and the city of great architecture, Fort Worth,
Texas. Hope you all are excited to attend the IGTF 2016— the ASPRS
Annual Conference. We encourage you to join the Student Advisory Council
(SAC) activities. SAC is getting more involved each year with mainstream
ASPRS because of the extraordinary help from ASPRS Headquarters.
SAC Involvement
—This time SAC will volunteer at Frontier
Day, April 15
th
by organizing STEM and business outreach
workshops. Frontier Day is a new addition for IGTF 2016.
These workshops will provide users with well-established or
recently released systems and software, as well as insight to
the underlying geospatial technology.
FrontierDay
—Focuses onpreparing educators to incorporate
geospatial and remote sensing curricula into STEM/STEAM
programs. The outreach workshops cover themes of local and
regional interest such as:
1. Oil & Gas (asset management, environmental permitting,
inspection, and emergency response);
2. Public Safety (regional emergency response planning,
911 services, and disaster management),
3. 3D Intelligent Cities (infrastructure management,
transportation, 3D models, smart buildings, crowd
sourced mapping, sustainability and resilience);
4. STEM Education (geospatial technologies in K-12
curriculum, hands-on training for geospatial educators,
web-based and open source geospatial education tools).
Geoleague Challenge
—This year’s challenge was to
use freely available imagery to produce an innovative
visualization product featuring the national park of your
choice. This challenge celebrates the 100 year anniversary
of the National Park Service! There are 58 national parks in
the National Park Service and the SAC is challenging you to
pick one and create a visualization product that highlights its
unique features. Examples includes: Time series animation,
GIS fly through, online story map, Image based structure
from motion, 3D model.
Social Media Update
—SAC is committed to social media.
Our goal is to increase our followers in LinkedIn and other
medias. We encourage you to spread the word about our online
presence. We know social media can facilitate the power of
geospatial technology and its implications.
Opportunities
—SAC will host a student technical session
and a ‘Meet-the-Employer’ where students can meet with
employers to discuaa work opportunities and career paths.
That’s right, it is the students turn to interview employers
to gain insight into starting a career. We hope that by
participating in these sessions and workshops during the
conference, student members be become more involved in
SAC activities in the future.

—
This year SAC is thrilled to have the opportunity to attend
the ISPRS Conference in Prague, Czech Republic. Five
student delegates from SAC are working to initiate an online
fundraising program. In addition we are also quite optimistic
about the support from the ASPRS community. A ‘GoFundMe’
account has been created for this purpose.
We kindly ask
for donations to make this experience possible, www.
gofundme.com/ASPRSStudents.
SAC Outreach
— We expect critical stricture and suggestion
from the student body and chapters during the conference
about how SAC can perform well and get more involved with
the student nationally and internationally.
