IGTF 2016 EXCEEDS EXPECTATIONS
F
or those of you who were unable to attend last week’s
IGTF conference in beautiful, downtown Ft. Worth,
TX you missed a high value event. Both the hotel and
the conference center were easy to navigate and the Art
Festival at the end of the week was amazing. Luckily the
conference ended before the rains came.
The conference began with a number of interactive workshops where the attendees were
provided with the opportunity to learn by doing. Tuesday through Thursday included
outstanding keynotes, the main technical sessions and social events in the spacious and
relaxing exhibit area. A number of people commented that Dr. Larry Mayer’s keynote on ocean
mapping was one of the best they had ever heard.
Frontier Day wrapped up the conference with presentations from technical experts and
industry professionals in the area of education, oil and gas, public safety and 3D cities.
This marks an important point in the future direction of the ASPRS as we reach out to the
consumers of geospatial information.
Executive Director Michael Hauck aka the “Energizer Bunny” seemed to be everywhere
choreographing all of the activities. Michael commented, “I am very grateful for the volunteer
efforts of so many of our members who worked tirelessly to create a meaningful experience for
others. This spirit of giving back is why I love the members of ASPRS.”
Please mark your calendars for next year. IGTF 2017 will take place in Baltimore, MD
March 13-17. See you there.
*Please note: IGTF 2016 conference proceedings are currently being processed and will soon be
available to access online. ASPRS will send an email when they are ready.
