Charles Toth Elected to ISPRS Council | New Members
CHARLES TOTH ELECTED TO ISPRS COUNCIL

SPRS President Charles Toth was elected 2nd Vice
President of ISPRS during the XXIII ISPRS Congress
in Prague last month. The 2nd Vice President is a member
of the ISPRS Council. Additionally, Toth was awarded the
SchwidefskyMedal for his “significant contributions to the
photogrammetry, remote sensing and spatial information
sciences,” according to the citation. Theaward is sponsored
by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Photogrammetrie,
Fernerkundung und Geoinformation (DGPF).
Additionally, the Brock Gold Medal was presented to Professor Wolfgang Förstner of
Bonn University, Germany for his “outstanding scientific achievements in the fields of
photogrammetry and computer vision.” ASPRS sponsors the medal, which is awarded by
the ISPRS Council only once every four years. According to the citation, “the medal shall be
awarded only in respect of an outstanding landmark in the evolution of the photogrammetry,
remote sensing and spatial information sciences.”
ISPRS is the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, founded in
1910. ASPRS is the U.S. Member of ISPRS, and has representation in the General Assembly
which governs ISPRS. The ISPRS Council Conducts the affairs of the Society in the interval
between meetings of the General Assembly.
The next Congress will be held in Nice, France in 2020. The first was held in
Vienna, Austria
in 1913.
