Ten-Year Remote Sensing Industry Forecast - Phase 2 Review
Charles Mondello, Pictometry
1:00 pm to 5:00 pm
Room: Tower Court C, Second Level, Tower Building
Sponsored by ISPRS WG I/1
NASA and ASPRS have formed a Space Act Agreement (SAA) to develop an industry forecast for the remote sensing marketplace. While many projections have been made over time, this is a forecast developed and carried out by members of our industry. This places significant credibility on the study results. The study, in its second of five years, has carried forward its phase one results to the industry. The first year was a baseline of the industry. This showed direction, size, and key concerns within remote sensing. The SAA was performed by survey, corporate management interview, and literature review.
Phase two of the SAA focuses on the end user. While we will continue with the direct survey and literature efforts, focus groups have been added to the activity. The tutorial will summarize the results to date of end user requirements, capabilities, and needs.

Chair: J. Gabrynowicz, University of Mississippi School of Law
The remote sensing community has undergone important changes in recent years. These changes include multiple commercial data providers in a number of countries and an increasing number of important national and international scientific missions. This panel will address and discuss what these changes might mean for the remote sensing community as a whole.
Panelists:
Huw Hopkins, European Space Agency, France
Patrick Rosenbaum, ImageSat International, Israel
Barbara Ryan, U.S. Geological Survey

USGS Camera Calibration Activities Panel
10:30 am to 12:00 pm
Room: Tower C, Second Level, Tower Building
This panel session continues the discussion and information exchange of the USGS's camera calibration activities, which began during the XXII FIG International Congress and ACSM-ASPRS Conference in April 2002. This session will provide an update on what the USGS and NASA have done since the April meeting and plans for the future.
NASA and USGS held a special workshop in June 2002 and a summary report of that meeting will be given. The USGS has also awarded contracts to Pictometry and The OSU who will be conducting studies and developments to provide digital extensions to the current analog calibration instrumentation. An overview of the proposed work by these partners will be given. Also, NASA has been continuing its discussions with camera manufacturers on conducting the initial product characterization tests over the Stennis Test Range. NASA will provide status of these activities and plans for extending the range for small format cameras and describe proposed additions at a nearby airport to support the product characterization flight missions. Finally, the USGS has reorganized the management of its calibration activities and will describe their process of dealing with issues and policies on digital camera calibration and characterization.
Panelist:
George Lee, U.S. Geological Survey
Vicki Zanoni, NASA Stennis Space Center
