ference. As part of his future agenda, he intends to use his
spatial skills in a variety of professional and public service
efforts including boundary issue resolutions, transportation
engineering and sustainable infrastructures.
Purpose:
To encourage students who have an exceptional
interest in pursuing scientific research or education in geo-
spatial science or technology related to photogrammetry, re-
mote sensing, surveying and mapping to enter a professional
field where they can use the knowledge of their discipline to
excel in their profession.

tion (ILI) Memorial Scholarship
Shan Yu Chuan
Shan Yu Chuan from the University of Southern California
is selected as the eighth annual recipient of the John O
Behrens ILI Memorial Scholarship. Chaun is a person who
demonstrates a passion for using geospatial science and
technology to help solve complex problems and to help people
make more informed decisions.  Her commitment, motivation
and quest for greater knowledge and understanding follow
the example set by John Behrens.  Chaun is planning
on pursuing a career in geospatial science research and
analysis.  She is an excellent student with an outstanding
academic record.  Her goals include gaining additional
practical work experience and then attaining a PhD in spatial
sciences.   Chaun has been active in research projects and has
demonstrated her ability to work independently as well as to
work in collaboration with others.
The John O. Behrens ILI Memorial Scholarship was estab-
lished by the Institute for Land Information (since officially
dissolved) as a tribute to the many contributions of Mr. Beh-
rens to the field of geographic and land related information
and technology. John O. Behrens was a founder of the ILI
and the author of many articles about the value of spatial in-
formation, land assessment and taxation, and land informa-
tion policy. In recognition of Mr. Behrens outstanding contri-
butions over his distinguished career, funds from the ILI have
been donated to the ASPRS Foundation to be administered for
the John O. Behrens ILI Memorial Scholarship.
Purpose:
To encourage students/persons who have an excep-
tional interest in pursuing scientific research or education in
geospatial science or technology or land information systems/

William A. Fischer Memorial Scholarship
Yanjun Su
Yanjun Su, currently a Ph.D. candidate in Environmental
Systems at the University of California Merced, been selected
to receive the 2017 William A. Fischer Memorial Scholarship.
Su is being presented this award in recognition of his import-
ant research and teaching accomplishments, significant ana-
lytical skills, and impressive academic record. Su has clearly
demonstrated the ability to combine his significant research
and analytical skills to help us address important environ-
mental issues connecting the impact of climate change and
human activities on forest land cover health and dynamics.
His current research is focused on mapping forest structure,
including tree height and aboveground biomass from regional
to global scales through the fusion of multi-source remotely
