is now offering Online Training courses
for the LP360 point cloud data processing product suite. Offered
courses will cover a variety of topics appealing to a broad range
of users of various skill levels. Each course will be a hands on,
interactive instructor led training session focused on a particular
workflow or topic.
The August11th course, Introduction to Breaklines, famil-
iarizes users with the LP360 breakline and conflation tools
commonly used to enforce breaklines for cartographic DEM
production, as outlined in the
,
. Using a provided
LIDAR data set, attendees will learn the basics of constructing
and enforcing breaklines. Pre-training exercises will be provided
to all participants in advance. A license of ArcGIS is required
for this session and will need to be provided by the attendee.
Spaces to these events are limited to 4 attendees per session.

ANNOUNCEMENT
A group of 70 soil scientists attending the University of
Wisconsin-Madison’s first global workshop on Digital Soil
Morphometrics had an opportunity to see an XRF instrument
and a
Spectral Evolution
PSR+ spectroradiometer at work
in two soil pits. The fieldtrip on the first day of the workshop
allowed the scientists to see the two complementary technologies
in action, take scans and talk about the results.
Nate Bloomingdale represented Spectral Evolution and
provided a hands-on demonstration of soil sampling
in situ
with the full range PSR+. Once collected, the scans could be
analyzed, highlighting features of interest. In addition, the
PSR+ was equipped with EZ-ID sample identification software.
EZ-ID matches target samples against known spectra from
the USGS and SpecMIN libraries. EZ-ID also includes Custom
Library Builder software so that researchers can create their
own library for specific projects and regions.
While an XRF and XRD instrument can provide information
on elements, the spectroradiometer can identify and measure
clays, carbon, sodium, nitrogen, hydrogen, and phosphorous
in a single scan – all important properties for complete soil
characterization.
The workshop was organized by the IUSS Working Group
on Digital Soil Morphometrics. Digital Soil Morphometrics is
defined as the application of tools and techniques for measuring
and quantifying soil profile attributes and deriving continuous
depth functions. In addition to the soil pit analysis instruments,
the fieldtrip also gave researchers and opportunity to inspect
some agricultural drone technology. The fieldtrip was followed
by a three day symposium that cover soil profile attributes, soil
profile imaging, soil depth functions and use and application
topics.

release (EXP Release) of LP360. Available both as an add-in to
ArcGIS® and as a standalone 64 bit application, LP360 is the
world’s most powerful and popular LIDAR extension for the
ESRI environment. This release (2015.1.42) includes many
feature updates as well as new tools aimed at improving our
users’ ability to derive value from point clouds.
Feature updates for this release include: updated attribute
class flags and filters to ensure robust compliance with the LAS
1.4 specification, new modes and units for volume outputs as
well as improved digitizing tools in standalone for creating 3D
stockpile toes.
Significant new features for this release include the new Live
View interface for dynamically updating class/flag/return filters,
a planar surface statistics point cloud task for testing point
cloud precision, a ground cleaner point cloud task for cleanup
of unclassified ground patches and a Coordinate Reference
System (CRS) Utility for inserting CRS information into LAS file
headers. A new experimental feature is an automated stockpile
toe extractor for defining the base for volumetric computations.
Several new features aimed at engineering applications, such
as volumetric analysis, include a feature edit tool for selecting
and deleting features as well as an attribute and schema editor
for the direct viewing and editing of feature attributes.
Each copy of LP360 includes both a Windows standalone and
an ArcGIS extension license. This release is available to custom-
