WINTER GREETING FROM THE STUDENT ADVISORY COUNCIL (SAC)!
T
heSAC is thrilled to share exciting opportunities. Year round theSACanddevoted
members are fully committed to making it their goal to produce professional
experiences for all students within the ASPRS. This page is created by the SAC for
all interested parties to have a glimpse of important events and news that goes on
within the society.
GEOLEAGUE 2016
Get ready for the return of GeoLeague. This year we are
planning to select topics pertaining to the 100th anniversary
of the National Park Service. This will be an exciting and
educational event for ASPRS student members and their
sponsors to participate.
2016 IGTF STUDENT SNEAK-PEEK
Student Interns
Significant changes are going to occur in the volunteer
activities and session planning structure for the ASPRS
annual conference. The SAC, along with the executive
members of ASPRS, are adopting a new “student intern”
framework to replace the previous student volunteer
roll. Students will have a more direct participation
position in conjuction with staff during the conference
and gain a significant amount of experience while
working with professionals. The internship will cover
hotel accommodation and conference registration. The
new structure is still under discussion and applications
and openings will be announced soon.
Registration Fees
ASPRS is also planning to make some changes to
the annual conference in terms of registration fees.
It proposes to include the workshop ticket with the
student registration fees. The SAC will work with the
ASPRS executive committee on the registration fees so
that the annual conference can attract both students
and participants from diverse fields.
Frontier Day
The new theme for Friday of the conference is a good
Texas style “Frontier Day” and will include college
students working with K-12 STEM to expand the
knowledge of geospatial fields through interactive
learning exercises. There will be exciting activities for
all members to participate in during this day.
SOCIAL MEDIA
Previously the SAC did not have much of a social
presence, since there was a miscommunication about
login credentials for our Facebook and YouTube
accounts so the current counselors could not update
content. Now that we have access to these social media
sites, and we will be updating them regularly.
The networking councilors are organizing an outreach
event called “Tell Us Your Research Story” to attract
more student members. Participants will share a three
to five minute lightning talk, which will ultimately be
published on the Youtube channel.
ADDITIONAL EVENTS COMING UP
SAC members are planning to attend the annual
ISPRS (International Society for Photogrammetry and
Remote Sensing) 2016 conference which will take place
in Prague.
