NOTICE OF PROPOSED
CHANGE TO THE BYLAWS—
MEMBER COMMENT IS
INVITED
A
SPRS is undergoing a rebirth, which includes
improving its member value proposition and
simplifying its governance structure. To that
end, the ASPRS Board of Directors unanimously
approved the recommendations of the Streamlining
Task Force at the May, 2015 Board of Directors
meeting
(see:
/
ASPRS-Reorganization.html). To implement the
recommendations, new bylaws are required. As a
first and partial step towards full implementation,
the Board will vote on an amendment to the Bylaws
of the Society at a Special Meeting of the Board in
late December of 2015 or early January of 2016. If
this amendment passes, ASPRS will be able to go
live with its new member portal and online services.
These services include community pages, discussion
forums, calendars, and other resources to facilitate
the work of the Society and improve the member
experience.

:
Current Members, Emeritus Members, Honorary
Members, Fellow Members, Affiliate Members, Student
Members, and Associate Members will be converted to
Individual Members.
Individual Members will have a varying membership fee
structure, depending on the stage of their career (e.g.
student, active professional, retired, etc.).
There would no longer be new Emeritus Members (but
current ones would be grandfathered).
Current Emeritus and Honorary Members will continue to
receive their option to waive payment of dues.
Current Honorary and Fellow Members will continue to be
known as Honorary Member and Fellow Member. These
will be honorific titles, rather than member categories.
New awards will be referred to as Honorary Lifetime
Achievement Awards and Fellow Awards, which would
not represent a member category.
Current Student Members will obtain voting privileges by
conversion to Individual Membership.
