GREETINGS FROM THE ASPRS STUDENT ADVISORY
COUNCIL (SAC)!
W
e hope your spring semester has gotten off to a great start. The ASPRS
2018 conference co-located with the International Lidar Mapping Forum in
Denver, Colorado has concluded and was a great success from our perspective.
We would like to highlight a few of our favorite activities from
the week: student internships, Geoleague, and the student
paper and poster sessions.
The student internship was a great opportunity to assist with
the conference while
still having ample time
to network, view the
exhibit hall, attend
workshops, and present
a poster or paper. The
SAC wishes to thank
ASPRS for giving us
all the opportunity to
attend the conference
as student interns.
The Geoleague was a rousing success with four teams composed
of two students and two professionals each competing for
bragging rights and prizes. The session took place Tuesday
afternoon in front of a lively crowd, who cheered frequently.
The questions were chosen from a range of categories from the
obvious such as Lidar and Remote Sensing to the obscure such
as ASPRS history. The event was a blast for the participants
and viewers. We encourage any students wanting a fun time
and a unique opportunity to test your geospatial knowledge to
participate next year.
The student sessions were well attended. The poster session
included interesting topics such as UAS for land mine recon-
naissance and modeling landslides. The student paper session
had 5 fascinating post-
ers with many unique
UAS applications and
a novel approach to
mapping waves with
LiDAR. The confer-
ence will be in Denver
again next year and
we hope to see even
more student mem-
bers there!
Spring marks the transition of new SAC members into the
council. The first transition of the new term is the deputy chair
becoming chair. We would like to welcome Jeff Pu as our new
Student Advisory Council Chair! We also wish to thank Jason
Blankenship for all his hard work over the last two years. Next
month we hope to introduce the new Vice-Chair and the new
SAC members to the society.
